The Griffiths Gnat is a simple but effective dry fly pattern, often used to imitate small midge clusters on the water surface, especially during a midge hatch. It works well for trout fishing in various conditions, especially when the fish are feeding on small insects.

Materials:
-Hook: Size 16-22 (Dry fly hook, barbless optional for catch-and-release).
– Thread: Black or olive, 6/0 or 8/0.
– Body: Peacock herl (provides a natural shimmer and buggy appearance).
– Hackle:  Grizzly saddle hackle (tied palmer style along the body).

Target Species:
– Trout (especially effective for species like rainbow trout, brown trout, and brook trout), when they are rising to feed on small, clustered midges or gnats. This pattern works particularly well in calm waters where trout are sipping insects off the surface.
