Greenwells Glory

The Greenwell’s Glory is one of the most famous traditional dry flies, originally developed in England to imitate olive duns and other small upwinged insects. It is a highly effective trout and grayling pattern, especially during spring and summer hatches on rivers and stillwaters.

Hook: Standard dry fly hook, sizes #12–#18

Materials:

• Thread: Olive or primrose yellow
• Tail: Brown cock hackle fibers
• Body: Olive silk or olive tying thread
• Rib: Fine gold wire or gold tinsel
• Hackle: Furnace or brown cock hackle
• Wing: Grey starling or mallard quill slips (upright)
