Blobs

$ 4.00

The classic stillwater Blob: a round, fluffy fritz body with gold flash, built to pull trout. In hot orange and orange with a chartreuse/yellow tail.

Price per dozen (12 flies)

Category:

The Blob is one of the most popular stillwater trout flies of recent years, found in almost every reservoir angler’s box. It is a simple pattern, a hook wound with fritz to make a round, fluffy body, but trout find it hard to ignore. Many anglers see it as an imitation of clouds of daphnia (tiny water fleas trout feed on); others simply treat it as a highly effective attractor. Either way, it works.

Our Blobs are tied with dense fritz with a fine gold flash running through it, giving a full, glowing profile that pulses with every pull. Available in:

  • Hot orange: the classic Blob colour and a proven fly for stocked rainbows.
  • Orange with chartreuse/yellow: a two-tone, tequila-style Blob with extra visibility in coloured water or low light.

How to fish it

  • Floating line: fish it on the point or top dropper for trout feeding near the surface. A bright Blob on the top dropper can also act as an indicator for the flies below.
  • Intermediate or sinking line: count it down to search deeper water, especially in bright sun.
  • Retrieve: it works on fast strips and on slow figure-of-eight retrieves. Pause and “hang” the flies near the end of the retrieve, as takes often come on the hang.

Typical materials

  • Hook: Wet fly / lure hook
  • Thread: To match
  • Body: Fritz with gold flash, wound and packed to a round shape
