Fat Albert

The Fat Albert is a versatile and highly buoyant attractor fly that imitates large terrestrial insects like hoppers, beetles, and cicadas. Known for its durability and lifelike profile, it’s an excellent choice for targeting trout in fast-moving waters or during high summer months when terrestrials are abundant.

Materials used:

• Hook: A 2X long hook (sizes #6-12), providing a large, substantial profile to attract big fish.
• Body: Layered foam strips in contrasting colors (typically black, tan, and yellow), creating a segmented, buoyant body that floats exceptionally well.
• Legs: Rubber legs on both sides of the body for added movement and a lifelike insect appearance, perfect for imitating the legs of hoppers or beetles.
• Wing: A tuft of white poly yarn or calf hair on top for increased visibility, allowing anglers to easily track the fly in fast or turbulent water.
• Thorax: Additional foam or dubbing to create a bulky, buggy head and thorax.
