Stimulator orange/Red head

Stimulator (Red Body, Orange Head) is an effective dry fly pattern designed to imitate large stoneflies, hoppers, and other big terrestrial insects. It’s a great attractor pattern, perfect for drawing in aggressive trout in fast or turbulent waters.

Materials used:

• Hook: A 2X long dry fly hook (sizes #8-14), ideal for representing larger insects.
• Tail: Elk hair or deer hair for buoyancy and to mimic the natural tail of stoneflies or grasshoppers.
• Body: Red dubbing for the main body, creating a bold, high-contrast appearance that draws attention from fish.
• Thorax/Head: Orange dubbing for the head, offering a bright, visible section to help trigger strikes.
• Ribbing: Fine gold or copper wire to reinforce the fly and add segmentation.
• Wing: Elk hair or deer hair tied in over the body to imitate the wings of a stonefly or hopper.
• Hackle: Brown and grizzly hackle fibers wrapped through the body for added movement and buoyancy, helping the fly float well on the surface.

The Stimulator (Red Body, Orange Head) pattern is highly effective for targeting brown, rainbow, and brook trout in both fast-moving streams and calm waters. Its bright colors make it an excellent choice during summer and early fall when large terrestrial insects are abundant.
