Zoo Cougar (white)

The White Zoo Cougar with Grey Mallard Feathers is a sleek and effective streamer fly pattern designed to mimic baitfish. The addition of grey mallard feathers enhances its natural appearance and movement in the water, making it even more attractive to large predatory trout.

Materials Used:

• Hook: Size 2 to 6, long shank streamer hook.
• Thread: White or light gray, 6/0 or 8/0.
• Tail: White deer hair with a few strands of pearl or silver Flashabou or Krystal Flash to add subtle sparkle and attraction.
• Body: Spun white deer hair, trimmed into a dense, bullet-shaped head for buoyancy and a diving action.
• Underbody: A small amount of white rabbit fur or synthetic dubbing for added bulk and movement.
• Wing: White zonker strip (rabbit or squirrel) tied on top of the body to imitate the swimming motion of a baitfish.
• Collar: Spun white deer hair, trimmed to form the signature Zoo Cougar bushy head.
• Flank Feathers: Grey mallard flank feathers tied on either side of the body to add natural mottling and lifelike movement in the water, mimicking the lateral lines of baitfish.

Target Species:

The White Zoo Cougar with Grey Mallard Feathers is designed to target:

• Brown Trout
• Rainbow Trout
• Cutthroat Trout
• Bull Trout
• Other large predatory trout

The white color combined with the grey mallard feathers creates a highly effective baitfish imitation, especially in clear or lightly stained water. The buoyant deer hair head helps the fly dive and dart when stripped, while the mallard feathers give the fly a natural, flowing movement that further entices aggressive trout. This pattern is ideal for fishing in larger rivers, lakes, or reservoirs where predatory trout are actively hunting for prey.
